Christmas

Christmas was such an exciting time for the kids.  It was magical to see everything through their eyes.

For Christmas dinner we had ham, funeral potatoes, Rhodes rolls, red and green jello and sparkling cider with colored snowflake and Christmas tree shaped ice cubes.

We acted out the Nativity.  Darrell was Joseph and Megan was Mary.

Emily was an angel.

Tyler was a wise man bringing gifts for Jesus.

The kids were able to open one present. ("I hope it's NOT pajamas!  I don't want it to be PAJAMAS!")  No, spoiled children, it's not jammies, just new robes.  (Which they really, really, really liked.)

We opened one other present that night, the Minions movie, and watched it to "kill time" before it was time to write out lists, "hang" the stockings, and leave treats for Santa.  Emily, Megan and Tyler

The kids slept in until after 7:00 a.m. which was nice.  Getting ready to go see what Santa Claus brought.

We had a nice relaxing day while the kids played with their new toys.

Tyler and his Pokemon cards and new bike.

The girls got fingernail polish.  Here is Megan.

Emily with her new basketball.

All of the kids got art supplies-construction paper, drawing paper, markers, etc. and  here is Tyler's minion creationl

Santa also brought a Wii U.

The kids received headphones.  Megan said, "Mom, now I'm a teenager with my headphones and gum."  (Um, yep!)

We had a wonderful Christmas.  It was so nice to be together as a family--a perfect way to celebrate the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ.

December

We saw some snow in December and the kids were able to go sledding on the nearby hill. (Megan, Tyler, Emily)

Tyler bought a Santa hat with his own money.  One night when I went in to check on him I saw he was wearing it in his sleep.

The girls got their hair cut.  Megan only wanted a few inches cut off, but Emily wanted hers to be really short.  They're both cute.  (Emily kept going into the bathroom to look at her haircut and then would come out saying, "It's just so cute!")

The girls got the presents out from under the tree one day.

Emily decided to make herself into a present.  She made a tag.

And then she put herself by the tree.

We went to the mall so the kids could talk to Santa Claus.  I didn't get any pictures with the Jolly Old Man because they wouldn't let us take any--you had to buy a ridiculously priced package if you wanted any photos.  But we did get pictures by the reindeer outside. (Emily, Megan, Tyler)

We also got an FHE treat at the mall. (Tyler, Emily, Megan)

I am the director of the school choir and we had a holiday performance in December.  My mom found out I was without an accompanist and volunteered to play the piano for us.  She was awesome!  The concert went well.  I did not get any pictures that night, but here is a picture of the kids at rehearsal that week.

After the concert my parents treated us to yogurt at Menchie's.  I'm so grateful my parents continue to come to my concerts, even when I'm no longer the participant, but the director.  (Tyler and Emily, Megan)

Darrell and I were able to attend the Mormon Tabernacle Choir Christmas concert this year.  I didn't get a picture inside, but this was our view walking out of the building at the end.

Since I'm now working at the school I didn't get to see the holiday showcase like I have in the past, but here is a picture of the whole kindergarten at the parent showcase.

And her is the second grade at the performance the students did for each other.

Tyler finished up basketball.  He had a really great coach and learned a lot.

Christmas Sunday clothes Tyler had been asking for a suit for awhile so we got him one for his Christmas outfit.  He looks so grownup and handsome! (Emily, Megan and Tyler)

One evening we went to Temple Square.  It was snowy/slushy.  Poor Emily's Hello Kitty boots weren't waterproof, so she was pretty soggy.

We went in the Assembly Hall and listened to a little bit of a concert.  It was nice to get inside and warm up a little.

My phone didn't take a very good picture.  Emily, Tyler Megan

Before we went home we stopped by to see the candy displays at Macy's.

The kids love to do "shows."  Sometimes they dance or do tricks and sometimes they just get up and talk about things.  I have to set a time limit or we're there for a long time!

My parents gave the kids Magformers for Christmas.  I let the kids open the gifts a few days before Christmas so they would have something to do that whole LONG week before Christmas.  They had a lot of fun with them.

I bought a gingerbread village kit.  It had 4 little gingerbread houses to decorate, which was perfect.  Darrell and each of the kids got to decorate one, but we didn't have too much gingerbread around since the kids decided they didn't really like the flavor of it all that much.

We had our annual sleep by the tree on December 23.  It's a fun tradition.

It's kinda hard to see the girls, but they ARE in their sleeping bags.

Yummy donuts for breakfast.
