July 2022

 We had a chance to participate in the Magna 4th of July parade.  Kris Nguyen is in our ward at church and we wanted to help her out for her campaign for the Granite School Board.  The kids helped separated the Otter Pops a couple nights before.

Then we walked in the parade on the 4th of July.  We passed out Otter Pops, flyers and pencils.  It was hot, but fun too.

We had burgers and homemade ice cream for dinner. (I thought I got a picture, but apparently I didn't) and then did a few fireworks of our own and watch the Magna fireworks from a church's lawn.

One of my favorite things about being a 5th grade teacher is taking the students to JA Biztown where they have the chance to run a pretend city for the day.  Emily and Megan's grade didn't have the chance to participate because of COVID.  So I was super happy to find out about the 2-day summer camp experience.  Four of their friends also signed up.  Megan was CEO of Delta and Emily was Treasurer for City Hall.  They both had a fun time and I loved being able to show up for their final town meeting and being a little bit a part of it.

 

 

We bought flower pots and flowers for our front porch.  Tyler and Megan wanted to choose hibiscus flowers because of the silly Studio C sketches.  They are so beautiful!

We went camping to one of our favorite campgrounds-Loop Campground up South Willow Campground.  I was a little worried that I had reserved the wrong campsite, but it happened to be the exact one we wanted.

We went on a morning hike up the mountain.  I told the kids we rest every 10 minutes. If they hadn't complained within those 10 minutes, they could get some licorice.  It turned out to be a pretty complaint-free hike.

We had hoagie sandwiches for lunch.

I relaxed by reading and the others played games.

We had to drive into Grantsville to get a propane tank because Darrell forgot to grab one of ours and then came back and had hamburgers.

Every year we've found the dear are not afraid of the campers and come within feet of camp.

The kids found their hideouts from 2 years ago and reclaimed them.

We got an appointment to do baptisms at the Bountiful Temple and then got custard at Nielsen's Custard.

 

The girls' friend Darby came over one day.

Tyler went to trek and came home to find the porgs welcoming him.

We rounded out the month of July with Emily and Megan going to Girls Camp at Lava Hot Springs.  Tyler came and helped me out at the school a couple mornings in exchange for a $5 Biggie Bag lunch from Wendy's.
