April 2020

 April was filled up with lots and lots of distance learning--me teaching my students from my kitchen table and the kids doing their part to keep up with the homework from their teachers.  Thank goodness there was some diversions along the way.

Emily made a funfetti cake with cream cheese frosting.

Mrs. Porg and Torgy celebrated their anniversary by re-enacting their wedding.

We watched General Conference that was completely online this year.  The speakers spoke from a small auditorium on Temple Square and sat 6 feet apart.  It was different, but the Spirit was wonderful.

We died Easter eggs.

This year we also tried dying eggs in boiled yellow onion skins.  They turned out beautifully!  (And they didn't taste like onions like I thought they might.)

  

Emily pulled out her tooth that was attached to a bracket.  I cut it off with wire cutters, but it still poked her.  We video conferenced with the orthodontist who tried to instruct me how to cut the excess wire with fingernail clippers, but the wire was too tough so we ended up meeting him at his office.

We celebrated my birthday.  I picked up french toast from Kneaders for a breakfasat treat.

Darrell took the kids out to look for presents and I had an empty house to myself for several hours.  (Now that's a fabulous birthday present when you're quarantined with those you love for days on end!)

We celebrated Easter the day after my birthday.  The kids loved searching for the hidden eggs.

We wanted to spread some Easter love to our elderly neighbors so Megan and I came up with inspiration sayings and put them inside plastic eggs.  Then we hung from their tree.

Our yummy Easter dinner-ham, funeral potatoes, green beans, Rhodes rolls, black cherry yogurt jello and birthday cake for dessert.

Our ward (church congregation) had daily challenges for the youth to do throughout the whole quaratining process.  One was especially fun. The youth were to find a sign in someone's yard, take it to their yard, sign the back, take a picture of it, put the sign in their own yard and then post the picture after someone takes it out of your yard.  The kids had fun and Tyler spent a long time riding his bike around the neighborhood to find it.  He found it several times.

We paid off our van!  Yay!

Doing puzzles became my relief from the stress of school.

We participated in a Teacher Appreciation video the PTA put together.

 

 

One of the things that we did almost every school day was go on a bike ride around the neighborhood.  We each took turns "leading the way" and deciding where to go.

 

It's kind of hard to see, but we were able to see a fly-over of stunt airplanes.
